When to Upgrade Your Motorcycle: Signs and Considerations

When you’ve been riding for a while, you really start to work out your preferences. Like Carolyn. She has been on and off motorcycles for a few years and now she wants a bike that can handle the occasional dirt / gravel road, still be able to tour and enjoy an upright, relaxed seating position. But Carolyn had tried the other brands and most proved to be too tall for her to get comfortable. When she came in to Procycles BMW Sydney for a look at our bikes, we suggested she try our demonstrator BMW F800 GS Sport, with a low seat. Carolyn was able to get a feeling for how suitable this bike would be and she was a lot more confident about ordering a new one, in Triple Black, with a low seat as an accessory. Ray was so lucky to score this near new, low k’s BMW M1000 R Competition, with the ‘works’. This is an epic motorcycle. One of the best we have seen at Procycles BMW Sydney. Think M1000 RR superbike with a less-aggressive riding position and half the fairings removed. The M1000 R punches out 154kW (206hp) which is just 2kW less than the M1000 RR and a massive 33kW (44hp) more than the standard S1000 R. Twist the throttle and hang on for a seriously spine-tingling experience. The 999cc inline four features BMW’s ShiftCam variable intake camshaft control. This tech wizardry helps the engine produce strong, useable power at lower revs, but also provides a devastatingly strong top-end performance. The carbon wings provide 11kg of downforce at 220km/h. The M1000 R already comes standard with a full carbon package and billet folding brake and clutch levers, plus fully adjustable billet footrests and carbon-fibre wheels. Then the previous owner went feral by adding a full Akrapovic system, Engine tune, Carbon front fender with integrated Brake cooling ducts, Carbon wings, Carbon tail tidy, Radiator & Oil cooler guards and a Tinted screen.

In recent years, Graham has been switching between BMWs. He previously was riding an early model S1000 XR, but decided to explore the back roads, so he bought himself an R1250 GS Rallye. After a few fun-filled adventure years, Graham was back to Procycles BMW Sydney, looking for the best of both worlds. A motorcycle that would be good for touring, that he can also take to track days and hold his own. Sounds like a new BMW S1000 XR. Nicolai is a Procycles BMW Sydney returning customer who was recently riding the R1250 GS.  With the announcement of the new BMW 1300 GS Adventure, with Adaptive Vehicle Height Control and Automated Shift Assist, Nicolai was one of the first to get his name on the list.And as a taller rider, Nicolai opted for the Sport Suspension and Comfort Seat High for additional comfort.Even on a rainy day, Nicolai took a small detour and stopped on his way home, to give the locals a closer look. Even with this first ride, the 1300 GSA was turning heads and getting a lot of attention.It’s the biggest BMW Motorrad touring enduro, and been winning riders over with its simplicity, comfort, and smooth running. Dewayne is an in-demand professional who travels around the world working on consignments. The last time he left Australia we sold his BMW S1000 RR M Sport. As soon as he knew he was coming back, Dewayne contacted us at Procycles BMW Sydney, and we ordered a new BMW M1000 RR Competition to be ready and waiting for him as soon as he arrived. The BMW M1000 RR Competition is about as good is it gets … on the road. Hot on the heels of BMW’s M1000 RR and Toprak Razgatiloglu’s World Superbike Championship win, for 2025, BMW has announced a host of fine tuning changes to the M1000, to ensure that it remains competitive in a series that uses homologation models as its basis. Indeed, BMW has gone through the whole RR range with a fine-tooth comb, but it’s the M1000 RR Competition, the machine that Razgatlioğlu and Dewayne rides, which receives the largest list of changes and upgrades. Tony has been coming into our Procycles BMW Sydney dealership over the last 12 months, back and forth, looking at the BMW R nineT and more recently, the R12. But we couldn’t quite get him over the line. Jordan had been in regular communication with our Procycles Kawasaki Sydney sales team for two months, wanting more information and any news on the expected arrival date of the brand-new 2025 Kawasaki Ninja 1100 SX. Then, one morning, without warning, it just turned up. One of the first of the SX models to arrive in Australia. We were able to ring Jordan and give him the incredible news. Not only did we know the delivery date, but we had one in the shop. Jordan gave us a deposit over the phone and hours later he was in the showroom taking a closer look. No wonder he was so keen. Brendan came in early, looking for a very special Christmas present for his 8 year old son, who was riding the wheels off his old Peewee 50. It was definitely time for this mini-motocrosser to get serious. A KTM 50 SX with real suspension, lots of power and race-bred handling was required. At Procycles KTM Hornsby we had just sold our last one – so Brendan had us order one in from KTM, to arrive before Christmas. Justin saw this hardly used Hypermotard 950 SP listed on bikesales.com.au He was quick to ring us at Procycles Sydney to take it off the market, and he managed to save himself quite a bit, compared to the price of a new one. Peter traded his BMW S1000 XR onto the latest BMW R1300 GS Trophy, kitted out by the factory with the Pro Enduro Package, Forged Wheels, Adaptive Height Control and the amazing ASA - Automated Shift Assist, a feature now available on the 2025 model R1300 GS. ASA is essentially an automatic gearbox that electronically assists clutch control and shifting. There is no need for a manual clutch lever, which makes starting, stopping and manoeuvring a breeze. ASA creates an even more direct link to the powerful boxer engine, which makes for a silky smooth transition between gears and irons out any loss of torque riders may have previously experienced between changes, with a manual gearbox. Adaptive Height Control is another engineering marvel, The bike ride height drops when you come to a stop and rises again when you take off. A big help to those of us who are vertically challenged. Rain, hail or shine, Peter was picking up his new bike from Procycles BMW Sydney. And he was really looking forward to a whole new BMW riding experience.

Norbert spends part of his working year overseas and he actually arrived back into Australia on the morning of his new bike day. Straight off the plane to Procycles BMW Sydney. Fortunately, being only 10 minutes from the airport, we were only a cheap Uber ride away. Norbert celebrated his arrival the best way possible, by riding home on his brand new BMW R1300 GS Trophy. At Procycles, we know Norbert well. He’s a returning customer, having purchased two BMW RT’s from us in the past. He still has his 2022 R1250 RT, but Norbert wanted something that would handle the dirt roads a little more effectively. BMW classifies the R1300 GS as an Adventure Tourer, but the Trophy variant really focusses the bike’s capability back to the dirt. The Trophy is loaded with all the BMW optional packages, particularly the Dynamic package with Quick-shifter, Pro Ride Modes, and Sports Brakes. And the Enduro Pro features of Handlebar risers, Engine and Frame protection, short Levers, wider Foot-pegs, adjustable Gear and rear Brake lever. There are other extras also, including Sport suspension, an Akrapovic muffler and off-road biased rubber.

John visited us at Procycles Kawasaki Sydney, still undecided about which motorcycle to buy. He wanted a performance tourer and all his friends were urging him to check out Kawasaki’s 2024 H2 SX. As it happened, we had a 2024 demonstrator model available in excellent condition with very low kilometres. Once we explained the stats of this incredible machine, John was totally sold. The H2 SX inline-four delivers 200hp @ 11,000rpm, while the all-important torque is a monstrous 137.3Nm at a very usable 8,500rpm. Kawasaki’s Rider Support Technology includes a whole host of electronic aids, many of which come in quite handy when exploring this 200hp supercharged rocketship. Kawasaki’s Cornering Management Function takes information from a number of sources including the IMU during the cornering, to make the transition from braking to getting back on the throttle as smooth as possible. This involves modulating the brake force, engine power and electronic suspension to keep the bike as balanced as possible, while the cornering ABS and traction control makes sure you are always in control of any surface changes. There’s also Launch Control, Wheelie Control, switchable power modes, a Quickshifter and Engine Brake Control. We did John a fantastic deal, including a full set of panniers to enhance the bike’s touring capabilities. John was very excited to collect his new bike. Who wouldn’t be!

Fernando is a serious adventure rider who spends his leisure time riding around the world. He came into Procycles BMW Sydney and ordered a new BMW R1300 GS Trophy. Whilst he was waiting for it to arrive, Fernando rode his old R1200 GS across South America! Fernando got back from his ride halfway across the globe, and picked up his new 1300 GS the following day. This new generation BMW GS motorcycle remains the number one choice for the biggest and best Touring Enduro from BMW Motorrad. Itzik traded-in his BMW R1200 GS Adventure Triple Black and black S1000 R on a new R1300 GS Adventure Triple Black … and got himself a new BMW Rallye suit, guess which colour? Triple Black! Trevor is an astute BMW owner and has owned many different models. Over the years, he’s ridden K Series bikes and many Boxers, but has not really been a cruiser type of guy. Until he saw this quite rare BMW R18 100-Year Anniversary Limited Edition model, and it was just too beautiful to resist. Only 1,923 such models were built in Berlin to commemorate the 100 Year Anniversary and the Year the Motorrad factory was founded. There is an air of exclusivity when you walk around this 100-Year R18. A wonderful combination of the hulking 91hp big Boxer engine, the unique paint-on chrome treatment, with a combination of chrome and black paintwork, framed by traditional double pinstripes and accented with a 100 Years badge. The extra spark provided the inclusion of an Option 719 solo seat, with its distinguished oxblood red colours, provides a real pop to the predominately black scheme. Procycles BMW Sydney are Australia’s BMW Heritage experts and we have seen a lot of R12, R18 and R nineT models come through, but this one took our breath away. It might look retro, but Trevor gets his fair share of BMW tech with this model. Nagendra is a tall unit, forever cramped and struggling to get comfortable on most bikes he sat on. Until he came across this immaculate S1000 XR Triple Black, at Procycles BMW Hornsby. Simon likes to stay one model ahead of the rest. He was one of the early adopters, taking delivery of his BMW R1300 GS from the first batch to arrive. And now he has moved on to the latest, new generation R1300 GS Adventure Triple Black, one of our first deliveries of this new model. Mark had his Thruxton 900 for more than a decade, and he’s now upgraded to this slick BMW R18 Bagger, from Procycles BMW Sydney, the BMW Heritage experts. This is a leap of faith for Mark. It takes courage to dive into the dark arts of the big cruiser segment. But once you are there, the rewards just keep coming. BMW has transformed the classic cruiser platform to new heights, with this supremely-capable R18 Bagger touring machine, bristling with state-of-the-art technology and a wide array of extra features and equipment, that the “good ole boys” from Milwaukee could only dream about. BMW’s 1802cc Big Boxer engine is complimented by the beautiful nickel-plated drive shaft. BMW’s classy styling starts with the sizeable fork-mounted fairing, which conceals the latest tech, like the brilliantly clear and easy-to-read 12.5-inch TFT screen, that displays vital info and full-colour navigation. Plus, the fairing houses a full infotainment system, smartphone connectivity, four analogue gauges, an all-new Marshall Speaker System, and the optional radar-driven Active Cruise Control. The BMW R18 Bagger looks big, but through a combination of good weight distribution, and the revised chassis, the R18 B actually handles better than its predecessors. Its agile for its size and design, and tips from side to side easily, tackling corners without too much stress or fuss.

David has had a thing for BMW’s RT models for the last 14 years. He bought his first R1250 RT SE in 2010 and since then he has owned three of them. He loves to tour. His last 2022 model travelled 40,000 klms. David sold each one of his bikes reluctantly, but he likes to keep pace with the technology. This brand new BMW R1250 RT Triple Black will be David’s fourth model and it’s amazing. Totally distinguished in it’s traditional Black Storm Metallic colours. Lachlan looks pretty happy collecting his first bike ever, a BMW G310 R from Procycles BMW Sydney. The 310 R might be the entry-level model of the BMW fleet, but up close up it’s very evident that this machine definitely came from BMW Motorrad. It’s all BMW quality in the build and finish. The first two upscale items that stand out are the upside down gold front forks and the cast aluminum swingarm. Usually only found on far more expensive bikes. Next is the braking system. ABS is standard, like most bikes, but BMW has upped the game with a 4-piston front calliper, and great responsive brakes are vital when you are just starting out. The 313 cc engine outputs 34 HP, but the real difference is how it’s been mounted. With lots of single-cylinders, the exhaust exits out the front. For the G 310 R, the cylinder head has been rotated 180 degrees backward, positioning the exhaust to exit near the rear spring. This makes for less heat under the seat, something you notice in traffic and on hot days. The G 310 R’s riding position is classic BMW ergonomics. This bike will fit most everyone, and the substantial tank gives the illusion of being on a much larger bike. The display cluster provides all the information – including fuel gauge, trip meter, top speed, average speed, tachometer, clock, gear position, and engine temperature. This is a great bike for both new riders, and those who want a fun city bike to add to their shed.

Every bloke needs a girlfriend like Rachel. She was recommended to us,
at Procycles Kawasaki Sydney, by a good friend of hers. Rachel wanted to do
something special for her boyfriend and she wanted it to be a surprise. Rachel
knew her boyfriend had been looking online at the yet to be released 2025
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R. But when Rachel asked around, nobody knew anything about
it. Until she arrived at Procycles. We found Rachel the only 2025 ZX-14R in the
country! So she bought it. The bike arrived at Procycles Sydney and we wrapped
it up. Rachel then bought her boyfriend to the store. He thought he was test
riding another motorcycle for Rachel’s girlfriend. When he pulled back the bike
cover and saw the new ZX-14R, with a sold sticker for Rachel, and she told him

Peter came all the way from Binalong, a small village in the NSW Southern Tablelands and 37 km north-west of Yass, to Procycles Kawasaki Hornsby. Christopher is an all-round athlete. He is a Taekwondo and Ninjutsu instructor and does lots of Stunt work. He’s obsessed with his gym routines and he’s a dedicated family man. Owning Australia’s most capable and most popular Superbike was not enough for Kamil.
